Rebecca Shafer (she likes to be called Becky) has been our secretary for almost 6 years. She really enjoys working here at MUMC. She says that the people here are very loving and supportive. Becky cares deeply about other people and can often be seen listening to others share their struggles and praying with them. Becky is an OSU grad. If you visit her office during football season, you will see quite a unique collection of OSU photographs and other collectibles.Becky has been married to her husband, Steve for 33 years. They live in the small farming village of Glenford. They have one son, Matthew, who will turn 25 in August. The other “family” members are Shadow, their golden retriever and Miss Kitty, a small calico cat. Some of Becky’s favorite activities are reading, walking Shadow, sitting on their deck (in the evening shade) sipping iced tea, and debating political ideologies and important world events.
Chad is the director of Young Family Life Ministries. He oversees the Youth Groups, Praise Band, and is currently spearheading a new direction for children's ministry. Chad started attending Millersport UMC a week after Paul wrote his last letter to Timothy. That means - he's been here forever! His favorite verses, among many, are Philippians 1:21 "For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.", and Romans 12:1-2 "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God - this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will."Chad is supported by his wife Dede and their 11 yr. old son, Lucas. Chad plays guitar, is an avid camper, and is a professional chocolate eater. "I can eat anything chocolate on a whole different level. " Chad's mission in life is to continually pursue a passionate relationship with our Lord, Jesus Christ. To be changed, transformed, and conformed to having a heart for God. "May God's fire burn hot inside all of us! May we all feel the burn!"

WorshipTrue worship is something we should experience with God every day - not just once a week at a church service. And contrary to popular belief worship is not just about music. Rick Warren wrote an excellent article about
10 Ways of Worshipping Without Music. This article is definitely worth reading again and again. It is so easy to lose our focus in life. Worship is the process in which we surrender our lives, our every action, and thoughts to God only to be filled and renewed in his love.Musical Worship OpportunitiesJoin the choir - They sing a variety of music and practice every Thursday at 7:00p.m. from September- May. Contact Mark Severance for more information.Join our worship band - They practice Wednesday evenings at 6:30p.m. Contact Chad Ervin for more information.Do you sing or play an instrument? Call the office 740.467.2622 and let us know you'd be interested in providing music for worship on Sunday morning or for an evening worship service.
Prayer is absolutely foundational to everything we do. We have several organized prayer groups - one on Thursday mornings at 7:00 am and the other on Sunday evenings at 6:30 pm.Through prayer we seek God's will for our lives and for the church. We pray in the powerful Name of Jesus Christ, through the power of the Holy Spirit, believing God's promises, that "the prayer of the righteous person is powerful and effective." ~James 5:16b
Please check our calendar to view when current Bible studies are meeting. Why Bible StudyWhy should we study the bible? The simple answer is because God in His word tells us to...2Timothy 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. We are exhorted to preach the word and to be able to defend it. 2Timothy 4:2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. Scripture is the tool God has given us and it is our duty to study it, know it, and apply it. 2Tmothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. I have listed some of the benefits to studying God’s word:* Studying the bible develops an appetite for God’s word and allows for spiritual growth: Matthew 4:4 But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.' " We must nourish our physical body with food. Without food our body begins to grow weak and can not function to its fullest potential. In this condition we can not properly perform our duties at home or the work place. We become ineffective and worthless. As our physical body needs nourishment, so does our spiritual part. If we do not take in a regular intake of bible doctrine, we become worthless as servants to God. To be strong spiritually and be good stewards we need a steady diet of His word. 1Peter 2:2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, By feeding on God’s word we will become mature Christians. As believers we have a hunger that can only be satisfied by God’s word, anything else will leave us feeling hungry. Job 23:12 I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food. * Studying the bible gives us the opportunity to know God and to reveal His character: God is not an inanimate object but a living God. As believers we should know God on a much more personal level then the world. We learn through His word that He is a loving God offering comfort, peace, and mercy. He is our hope and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who is our savior. The attributes of God and His love is probably a endless list but by studying His word we will develop a greater appreciation and a thankful attitude toward God as we see Him unfold in the scriptures. If we do not know God, how can we love and appreciate what he has done for us? Ephesians 3:19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. * Studying the bible helps us know the truth: As students of the bible, we must not trust the authority of man, but search the scriptures to see what God says. We must study the bible with diligence and prayer. Acts 17:11 These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. It is important to have prayer and communication with God so that the Holy Spirit can teach us. 1Co 2:13 These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. Truth is important, especially when it is God’s truth. If we study God’s word, we will know His truth and we will be able to recognize a lie when we hear one. 1John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. Discover the truth and do not be carried down the path of deception 2Peter 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. Studying God’s word protects us from traveling down this road.In summary studying the bible allows us to be a better workman for God. It equips us with the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) so that we can quench the fiery darts of the devil and be more than conquers in Christ. Romans 8:37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.Remember our citizenship is not on earth but in heaven and while on earth we are to represent Christ in everything we do. That is our job to represent Christ to the world and to preach His saving message. By studying His word we will be able to give reasons and to prove by the Word to the lost why Christ is our hope. The word of God will set you free, so discover His truth in the word and enjoy the freedom and peace it brings. John 8:32 "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
Volunteer - Get Involved - Become a Servant Leader1 Peter 4:10Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. Here at Millersport UMC we already have many wonderful outreach opportunities for you to serve. Whatever your gifts might be - they are all important and vital to fully serve our God. We would love to provide you with an updated list of where servants are needed. Please

Millersport United Methodist ChurchWho are we?Philippians 2:1-4Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. We are community of people striving to be like the people Paul describes. We are working to transform our church into a community of believers who want nothing more than to serve Jesus Christ with all their mind, strength, time, love and resources. We are growing, rebuilding, and restructuring.Change is something we can always count on and although God never changes, they way we minister to and reach people for Jesus needs to change. With prayer as our foundation God is leading the charge in showing us what needs done. I hope you can join us in our excitement in allowing the Holy Spirit to move freely. Acts 2:42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
Acts of ServiceMatthew 25:37-40“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ Whether we are helping out our neighbor, in our community, or farther away we are positively impacting those around us for Jesus Christ. Our church and individuals within the church are involved in many different types of outreach and service. We do not currently have a servant leader in this area. If you feel excited about serving people both in and outside the church than we need you! Please

Community GroupsWhy Live in Community?God designed people for community. Each of us has a desire "to belong" somewhere. Seeking community is often what brings many of us to Millersport UMC. It will be the relationships that we build that keep us coming back. At Millersport UMC, we understand that worship celebration on Sunday is an uplifting experience, a time to celebrate God, and an important part of our spiritual growth but it will not bring about life transformation. It is in Community groups where this life transformation occurs. Even Jesus did not live life alone...He created community by gathering his 12 disciples. What is a Community Group?A group is made up of 2 to 12 people who come together to build relationships through encouragement, accountability, guidance and prayer so that all members experience life transformation through Christ. Members are encouraged to share their thoughts, feelings, struggles and joys while applying Biblical principles in their daily lives. Through group prayer, members praise, ask, confess and thank God. In these trusting relationships, members agree that what is said in the group will remain confidential and differences of opinions will be respected. It is also important to remember that Community groups are not therapeutic support groups. If you need a more intensive support group atmosphere we will be happy to direct you to a group that can meet your needs.Where and When do Groups Meet? Most community groups meet in a member's home weekly, every other week, or even monthly. Groups meet on a variety of days and times. We are always supportive of individuals who are interested in starting a new group.Who Can Be a Member of a Community Group?Everyone is welcome to connect with a community group whether you are new in your faith journey or have long been a follower of Jesus. Come and join us for the journey! Just contact

How do we seek God?Colleen DonahueI was looking for an entrance onto a main highway heading west while driving in a congested, unfamiliar part of a city. Looking ahead I saw the familiar blue highway sign and proceeded towards it glad to have found my entrance. But once on the ramp I was surprised to find 4-5 policemen pulling each car over. I thought something terrible had happened and they were letting us know. To my surprise, I was being issued a ticket! “What for?” I asked. “You’re getting a HOV violation,” he responded. (HOV means High Occupancy Vehicles and is a system in congested cities for rewarding drivers that are carrying more than just the driver.) “ But I saw the highway entrance sign and thought this was the way onto it!” I pleaded. “Ma am, there were also three signs telling you that this was the entrance for HOV vehicles only.” I didn’t say anything more. I had seen only the familiar highway entrance sign but had missed the 3 warnings that this entrance was for HOV vehicles only. I was without excuse and about to pay dearly for my lack of observation. Now God has given to all of us three tangible ways to seek and find Him. You might say they are the road signs in our life. Each of us has one lifetime to come to know God. If we see only what we want to see and miss all the other signs then when we finish this life and come to our time of reckoning with God we will be without excuse and deserving of our punishment. Eternity In Our Hearts It is God Himself that puts the desire to know Him within us. He created us for a relationship with Himself and is eager that we would want it. But God also made us with free will, which is the only way love can exist. Forced love is not love. Every one of us was made with eternity inside our hearts and therefore what is finite can never satisfy us completely. Temporal satisfactions always fade and leave us with still more hunger. But How Do You Seek a Relationship With Someone You Can’t See? God anticipated that question and gave us three physical, tangible ways to find Him. I. Finding God In His CreationGod made us a wonderful playground to live out our lives. He gave us lovely scenery to look at, fields to run in, water to swim in, fresh air to breath, birds to listen to, flowers to smell and cute dogs to pet. Our five senses experience His creation everyday. All of creation points back to an ingenious God who hasn’t missed a detail. Man himself is the most ingenious of all God’s creatures. Doctors and scientists still marvel at the intricacies of the human body while they continue to discover more. There seems to be no end to the depth and complexity of man. He is the only one of all things created that is made in God’s own image. A very personal God has made man to operate as He Himself does. We alone of all creation have the potential to have a relationship with our Creator. If we never read a book or hear a preacher we would still have all we need to know about God from the things he has made.“For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. Ever since the creation of the world his invisible nature, namely, his eternal power and deity, has been clearly perceived in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.” (Romans 1:19-20) This will be the answer to our plea, “But I never heard, I never saw, nobody told me….. “ II. Finding God Through His Word From early on in man’s history God inspired men to pass along and then write down the words He spoke to them. So men, moved by God’s Spirit spoke and wrote God’s word. Men were the scribes but God is the author. The sum of these writings make up the Bible. A book is only as reliable and trustworthy as its author and this Bible was set forth by God who was “in the beginning” and who knows the end from the beginning -- someone who is eternal. Many have described the Bible as our owner’s manual. Since God made us, He knows how we are to live. He knows what will keep us healthy in mind, body and spirit. He knows what will make us happy. He knows what will satisfy us on every level. He also knows what will make us sick and the things that will cause us to stumble and fall. It’s all in the manual. But manuals are dry and rigid and boring. Unlike a manual, the Bible is living. It’s food for our souls and spirits set forth in history, stories, poems, songs and revelations. A Book To Be Examined God’s word read and applied is addictive. We want more and more of it because in its pages we come to know its author and we want more and more of HIM. All who have dared to seek God by reading His word and yearning for His truth have been satisfied. They have found his word to be God’s personal word to their heart, which is never dry and boring. We are meant to “receive” God’s word and then examine it for the truth ourselves. God actually invites us to “test Him” and see if He doesn’t do what he has said. When we start reading and studying the Bible we do so a little like that with our car manual. We have a problem, we have a question, we need an answer and so we go to the manual – God’s word. It’s a book for seekers -- not for casual inquirers. For diligent seekers the Word will become food for your soul and spirit. You’ll receive the answers to your questions along with much more. It will give light and understanding and correction. But it will also become joy to your heart. When we are careful to follow its instructions we become like a discerning son. We start to change and become like God’s son Jesus who was the firstborn of many brothers and sisters, which is what we become. Seeking the Bible for problems and their answers will give way to knowing God Himself. For God does not dispense “pills” to cure our problems. Instead, He gives us His Son and in Jesus we “have it all.” Seeking God’s word will always point us to God’s Son, which is the third tangible way given to man to know God.
III. A Third Way to Seek & Know GodMan Declares His Independence Right from the beginning, man has used his free will to operate apart from God. Instead of obeying Him, our first parents (Adam and Eve) “did their own thing” and the world was forever changed. Sin entered into the universe and from then on each of us was “born in sin.” God being holy and righteous can’t have a relationship with what is full of sin, self and independence, which is what man had become. And so man was cut off from knowing God personally. Why Can’t God Have a Relationship With Sinful Men? Let’s say you have a disobedient son. He will not obey what you ask him to do; he goes his own way, defies what you say to him, doesn’t trust you and sneaks around behind your back. Can you have a relationship with him? No! Your relationship with your son has turned into a disciplinary, warden type of role. You’re responsible for him as a parent so you feed and cloth him, but if he doesn’t want to trust you, love you or even be around you there is no relationship. You are still his parent and he is still your child but there is no relationship. So it is between God and us. The analogy with parent/child breaks down on one major point. A holy God can’t have relationship with sin and man cannot atone for his own sin. We are guilty and as such deserve death. But God gives to us another way to seek Him. We Can Know God Through His Son It is through God’s son Jesus Christ, that we have a clear picture of God. Jesus is not just another prophet. He is God’s Son that came in real time history so that we could get to know His Father. God has not given us a method. He has given us His Son to be our way back to God. Jesus came expressly to earth to save us from the sin and bondage that keep us from knowing God. He is our link with God. No one can come to God except through His Son. His death on the cross became the atoning sacrifice for our sins so that God no longer counts our sins against us. He has made you and I alive in Christ and has forgiven all our sins. Does that mean we DON'T have to try and clean ourselves up before we start to seek God? That’s right! Our part is to…….. -recognize that we are sinners living independently from God,-believe that Christ’s death on the Cross was the atonement for that sin,-and then go home. Go back to your Father and yearn for that relationship with Him that you’ve been missing out on. We are to commit our lives back to God as His obedient children. Christ’s Spirit Left To Live With Us After his death and resurrection Jesus left us his Spirit to live within the heart of any man seeking for God. Through Jesus we have access to the Father by this Spirit. When we yearn for Jesus in gratitude for all that He has done for us (ie. His death on the cross) we will begin to experience the fullness of God. For in Christ, all the fullness of God lives in bodily form and we have been given that fullness in Christ. Christ’s Spirit – called the Holy Spirit – is our personal guide to seeking and knowing God.“But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you………But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth.” John 14:26 & John 16:13How Do We Know When We Have Come To Know God? When we obey Him! When we not only read the Bible but also start to do what it says. When we listen to our conscience and do what it’s prompting us to do. When we start to obey, we are no longer like an unruly son that defiantly does what he wants. We live knowing that we have a Father in Heaven that loves us, communicates with us and has only good things planned for us. You’ll KNOW when you have come to know God. Do you already feel you know God but are still not satisfied? Job, a man written about in the Old Testament, was just such a man as you. He was a blameless and upright man who feared God and kept far from all sin and evil. A better man could not be found. But after a time of suffering, hardship and questioning God, Job discovered something or (shall we say someone) for himself. He said, “I had heard of thee by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees thee.” In other words, he was like so many of us. We have heard about God from others. We acknowledge Him, try to obey him and work at keeping our lives blameless and upright. But then comes a day when our seeking leads us deeper and we realize that all we knew of God before was second hand. Suddenly our eyes are open and we “see” God for ourselves – firsthand! Everything before this time has just been through “the hearing of the ear” but now OUR EYES see God! He’s Waiting For You!

9:00 a.m. Traditional ServiceOur first service is centered on the traditions of the past. We have a beautiful sounding pipe organ, and a choir that hope to help you connect with the Holy Spirit. This service also spends time in prayer and has a children's sermon. Communion is served the first Sunday of the month. If you find yourself able to connect with God through the old hymns of the faith and a more structured service than this is the service for you!11:00a.m. Contemporary ServiceOur Contemporary service is a bit less structured and informal. A typical service begins with a scripture to help us focus our minds and hearts on God. Our worship band leads us in song to help us worship our King. Prayer is a big part of the service followed by the message which is the same at both services. Communion is also served once a month on the first Sunday of the month. We conclude the service with another song to help us rejoice over our time together.11:00a.m. Children's (K-6) Worship ServiceChildren begin in the adult contemporary service but are dismissed for children's church after the offering. Children's church includes singing, prayer, bible reading, an age appropriate message, and a craft to help them remember what they learned.6:30p.m.Prayer/Praise and Worship ServiceEvery week we meet for prayer. We pray for the church, for the community, prayer requests, our nation, and the world. Every 3rd Sunday of the month is a continuation of this prayer with a praise and worship service. This service includes scripture, prayer, music, testimonies, more prayer, and more music. Please join us!

Statement of BeliefsThe 1992 edition of the Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church states emphatically that "a local church is a community of true believers under the Lordship of Christ. It is the redemptive fellowship in which the Word of God is preached by persons divinely called, and the Sacraments are duly administered according to Christ's own appointment. Under the discipline of the Holy Spirit the Church exists for the maintenance of worship, the edification of believers, and the redemption of the world." (paragraph 201)Millersport Church is only a small part of the total brotherhood of United Methodist churches and an even smaller part of the total Body of Christ. Yet, we all are expressions of the Body of Christ and feel an obligation to communicate to all where we stand in relation to Orthodox Christian teaching. Therefore, statements of belief have been incorporated to help orient the newcomer to the direction and theological orientation of this congregation. We hope that upon attending our church you will find a warm and loving body of Christians who sincerely desire to serve the living Christ. We invite you to become a part of this church.
Statement of Faith(as written by the National Association of Evangelicals)We believe the Bible to be the inspired, only infallible authoritative Word of God. 2 Peter 1:21 2 Timothy 3:16,17We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.Eph. 4:6 1 Jn 5:7We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.Jn1:14 1 Peter 3:13 We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.Romans 3:24-25 2 Cor 5:17 We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.Jn 14:26 Phil 4:13We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.Acts 24:15 Jn 5:28-29. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. Eph 4:4-6 We believe in the full expression of the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the Body of Christ as outlined in 1 Cor 12-14, Romans 12 and Ephesians 4, for the purpose of empowering the church for its mandate to win the world to Christ.

We at Millersport UMC are excited that you have visited our website and we invite you to come worship with us!What would happen if we took God's promises seriously? What if we really believed that God would supply everything we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3)? We are in the midst of finding out what that looks like.We recignize that we were never meant to do life alone. We are in this journey together. So we invite you to visit us on Sunday mornings or attend a less formal setting at one of our Community Groups. Together we can begin to transform our character and actions to that of Jesus Christ. May God Bless you and Keep you."I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." --Jesus

The vibrant and loving atmosphere at church will show you that we are not interested in organized religion, but rather in building relationships and godly character. Our worship is dynamic, the preaching of God’s word is powerful, and the sense of community is real. What is most important to us is the Gospel of Jesus, expressed daily through the lives of members of our congregation. Is it really necessary to go to church? Why can I not simply pray and meditate on my own?The vitality of Christianity is experienced in community with other believers, through meaningful fellowship, vibrant worship and hearing God’s Word preached. We see through the life of the apostles and believers in the early Church that Christianity was never a private matter. Rather, it was and still is a communal celebration of God’s love and saving grace.
